Fines

During 2012–13, the median fine imposed for those defendants given a principal offence of a fine was $400. This varied by principal proven offence:
  • traffic and vehicle regulatory offences was $400 (164,245 defendants or 54%);
  • public order offences was $350 (28,126 defendants or 9%);
  • illicit drug offences was $400 (21,795 defendants or 7%);
  • dangerous or negligent acts endangering persons was $800 (21,585 defendants or 7%); and
  • offences against justice was $380 (21,343 defendants or 7%). (Table 55)
